President Obama hopes to shame Republicans into a big budget-slashing deal, positioning himself as the flexible grownup and the GOP as tools of the super-rich.
But Republicans seem entrenched on a deal with zero new taxes – apparently because their 87 freshman House members will vote “no” in lockstep.
Negotiations went nowhere Monday, leaving both sides to suggest the other desperately needs a reality check.
