Uggie, the talented Jack Russell canine movie star, will take his final bows this awards season, appearing at the Golden Collar Awards and then will retire from his feature film career.
Nominated for two Golden Collars for his performances in The Artist and Water for Elephants, the perky Jack Russell stands a good chance of stealing the canine movie awards show on Feb 13, just like he did onstage at the Golden Globes.
But after the Golden Collars (and — one of his trainer tells us — his appearance at the Oscars on Feb. 26), the beloved canine star, age 10, is retiring, according to his trainers, Omar Von Muller and Sarah Clifford at Animal Savvy.
Clifford booked Uggie for The Artist and was one of his on-set trainers working long 15 hour days. So she knows first hand how hard he’s worked. Plus, retirement at age 10 (which is mid-70s in small dog years) is not uncommon.
“We don’t force our dogs to do this,” Clifford tells The Hollywood Reporter. “And it always has to be fun for them. Uggie’s still enjoying it but he’s getting up there and he’s slowing down a little.”
She says he can still do little jobs, like short films and TV commercials. But no more months long feature films.
“He’s at the stage where he just says, “I think I want to go and lay in the sun by the pool,” she explains. And yes, his house (he lives with Omar) does have a nice pool. Uggie’s protégé, his brother Dash, is training hard and will be able to jump in and fill Uggie’s pawprints soon.
Alan Siskind of Dog News Daily, who arranged for Uggie to attend the Golden Collar Awards, already knew about the star’s upcoming retirement plans. “So from what I gather, one of his last hurrahs will be at the Golden Collar Awards,” he said.
Siskind also told THR that he is having ongoing discussions with William Morris Reality TV Department and that several networks are already interested for the broadcast rights for next year’s awards. And yes, Animal Planet is one of them.
“We’re still in the discussion stage with their reality TV department and Amir Shahkhalili and hope to have things finalized soon,” says Siskind. “They will be an incredible asset to the Golden Collar Awards if we are fortunate enough to have them represent the Golden Collar Awards in all areas including branding and licensing opportunities beyond television.”
A quiet, subdued Ashton Kutcher was photographed at LAX on Thursday, touching down in Los Angeles after a fun trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil. (X17 was first to reveal the shots.)
During his time in South America, the Two and a Half Men star, 33, frolicked in a rainstorm, checked out a sexy fashion show, shot a campaign for Colcci with pregnant model Alessandra Ambrosio and hit a nightclub, his estranged wife Demi Moore was having a decidedly less awesome week.
The 49-year-old actress checked into a hospital Monday after suffering seizures and announced that she was seeking treatment for “exhaustion.”
Kutcher, who split from Moore in November after six years of marriage, hasn’t yet commented or tweeted about Moore’s condition.
“He cares a lot for her,” a source tells Us Weekly. “He’s very concerned and will always support her.”
No confirmation yet whether he’ll be visiting with Moore as she convalesces.
Spice Girls singer Melanie Brown revealed the band will be reuniting this summer during a recent interview on Australian TV — but contrary to reports, it won’t be for the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony.
“I think the Queen’s Jubilee concert is the event I’d be looking at more closely for that to happen,” the 36-year-old said. Realizing she revealed too much, the singer quickly changed the subject.
According to The Sun, Brown told TV crew members backstage: “I am going to be in such strife for saying that. It’s all so totally bloody top-secret still.”
The “Scary” musician and her bandmates — Victoria“Posh”Beckham, 37, Geri“Ginger”Halliwell, 39, Emma “Baby” Bunton, 36, and Melanie “Sporty” Chisholm, 38 — last performed together during a reunion tour that kicked off in 2007.
“I’m always down for a Spice Girls reunion,” Brown said. “I love the Scary hair and platforms. Any time of day or night I’ll be there.”
To mark 60 years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, the Diamond Jubilee will take place on June 4, 2012. The group will perform in front of the royal family, including Prince William, 29, and Kate Middleton, 30.
Brad Pitt may finally be ready to make an honest woman out of Angelina Jolie.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning (airing January 29), the Academy Award nominee says his six children are begging him to propose to In the Land of Blood and Honey director Jolie, 36.
“We’re getting a lot of pressure from the kids,” Pitt, 48, says. “It means something to them.”
Pitt admits he hasn’t “been very good” at explaining why he and Jolie have put marriage on hold since first becoming a couple in 2005. “We will someday. We will,” Pitt promises. “That’s a great idea.”
When his brood of six — Maddox, 10, Pax, 8, Zahara, 7, Shiloh, 5, and Knox and Vivienne, 3 — asked him to “get mommy a ring,” Pitt vowed: “Okay, I will! I will.”
The Moneyball and Tree of Life actor adds that he’s always been mindful of his children’s desires — especially when it pertains to his busy work schedule.
“You have less time to spend on a project,” Pitt explains. “You come home and you’re Dad. You’re much more conscious of how much time you give to a production.”
The 36-year-old actress smoldered in a Jenny Packham dress that showed off her multiple back tattoos at Sunday’s 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in L.A. Jolie accessorized her look with a bracelet and earrings by House of Lavande, a Platt Boutique bracelet, Gucci shoes and a Louis Vuitton bag.
“It’s fun to wake up and play with your kids and then get ready and go gout and be with bunch of friends. Especially on a night like tonight, where it’s all actors,” Jolie told E! News on the red carpet. “We’re running into a lot of people we haven’t seen in awhile.”
Jolie said her six children with Brad Pitt — Maddox, 10, Pax, 8, Zahara, 7, Shiloh, 5, and Knox and Vivienne, 3 — aren’t fazed by their frequent red carpet outings. “They usually just say, ‘You look fine. When are you coming home?’” Jolie said. “They usually just want to know if they can sleep in our bed tonight.”
Pitt, 48, added that he’s looking forward to working with Jolie on another movie. (The two famously fell in love on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005, while Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston.)
“We haven’t found anything specific yet, but we really want to,” Pitt revealed. “We hopscotch with our kids so one of us is always with the children. We figured, ‘Why don’t we do this together and we’ll have more time with them?’”

First Project Runway starHeidi Klum announces her divorce from Seal, her husband of 7 years. Now her co-star Tim Gunn admits that he hasn’t had sexual relations for 29 years.
“I haven’t had sex in 29 years. Do I feel like less of a person for it? No. Not even remotely,” Gunn, 58, revealed during ABC’s new health and lifestyle daytime talk show, The Revolution. Gunn, who is also a host on the new show, added that he feels like a “perfectly happy, fulfilled individual.”
His abstinence is rooted in psychological damage from a previous relationship. “I was in a very intense relationship for a long time. And my partner ended it, saying that, quite frankly, he was impatient with my sexual performance.”
At the time, the AIDS epidemic was just beginning. “I think a lot of people simply retreated because they were concerned about their health. I certainly was,” he says. “And I’m happy to be healthy and alive, quite frankly.”
But he’s not totally on sexual strike. ”It’s not as though I’m some barren forest,” he says. “I don’t want to imply to anyone that I have a mandate that says no sex. I don’t. I don’t know what’s around the corner.”
When it comes to commenting on the Obamas and African-Americans, French Elle needs to fermez la bouche!
In an blog post titled “Black Fashion Power,” writer Nathalie Dolivo managed to insult American blacks as a whole while offering left-handed compliments to the First Lady Michelle Obama for taking on the Jackie O role in a “jazzy” way.
The writer imagines that the Obamas are the first to bring true style to African-Americans.
“In this America led for the first time a black president, the chic has become a plausible option for a community so far pegged to its codes [of\] streetwear,” she wrote.
Things get even more baffling when she dubs the Obamas the “black-geoisie” who dress “white” but still maintain their ‘blackness” with symbols.
“There is always a classic twist, with a bourgeois ethnic reference (a batik-printed turban/robe, a shell necklace, a ‘créole de rappeur’) that recalls the roots,” she said.
While Michelle Obama has been known to wear African-influenced jewelry and support young black designers, it’s far less accurate to define her wardrobe as” batik robes and turbans.”
The backlash has been swift and severe.
“How, in 2012, in a France where there are at least three million blacks and mixed people, can you write such nonsense,” a commenter told French Elle. “You are too kind when you write that in 2012 we have incorporated the white codes…what do you think, in 2011, we dressed in hay and burlap bags?”
To black women in France, thearticle was upsetting but not surprising.
“The saddest thing is that this stupid journalist thought she was doing something positive for us,” a Fashion Bomb Daily commenter said. “ I’m sure that even educated French people wouldn’t see any offense in this. Yes this what we Black women in France live!!! Sad truth.”
Vera Wang has the body of a woman half her age. And then some.
The 63 year-old clothing designer and billion dollar wedding dress doyenne wowed in a black swimsuit for the February issue of Harper’s Bazaar.
Still, she admitted she wasn’t quite comfortable baring her body for the cameras.
“Ask anyone who’s traveled with me. Normally, I’m in so many layers, I look like Lawrence of Arabia,” she said.
When asked if she liked how she looked, she said, “No, honey, I’m a little horrified.”
Wang who has spent most of her life in New York, opened up her four bedroom Beverly Hills home, to show how she outfitted her home.
“It’s a zen escape,” she explains. “New York for me is about work. If L.A. were to become a West Coast version of that, I’d shoot myself. The climate, the lifestyle — it really fits as the yin to my New York yang.”
The house, which was built in 1967, has eyepopping views of the Los Angeles Basin and the Pacific Ocean.
She said it was a great relief to find a home instead of staying in so many hotels while in California.
“It’s difficult to relax in a hotel lobby, not knowing who you’re going to bump into,” says Wang. “And no matter how great a suite is, after a while you start to go a little psycho.”
